SF 49ers: 4 trade targets on NY Jets as they hold fire sale

SF 49ers Trade Target No. 1: EDGE Tarell Basham
A Football 101 proverb states, “when you think you have enough pass-rushers, add another.”
Well, the SF 49ers don’t have enough pass-rushers, at least not with EDGE Nick Bosa (ACL) out for the year and fellow EDGE Dee Ford (back) out indefinitely. Veteran EDGE Ezekiel Ansah was a two-game experiment that didn’t pan out after he landed on injured reserve with a bicep injury.

While it’s been a great storyline to see depth pass-rusher Kerry Hyder lead the team with 3.5 sacks, it wouldn’t hurt to land and potentially retain some younger pass-rushing depth.
Especially with defensive end Ronald Blair, who is also still out after last year’s ACL tear, pegged for free agency next season.
Jets EDGE Tarell Basham is also a pending free agent in 2021. But with a cap hit of $825,000 this season, he’s affordable before he hits the open market and can help bolster the depth behind Hyder, Jordan Willis and Arik Armstead.
While the 27-year-old Basham hasn’t quite panned out as an elite edge rusher — he has five sacks over his three-plus-year career — he’s managed to get eight pressures on the season, and that might be good enough for a situational role.
Like nearly every player on this list, Basham wouldn’t require much of anything on the trade market. Those are the kind of deals John Lynch and Co. are likely to engineer, particularly if there’s a low-risk addition to be made between now and the deadline.
That NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
