SF 49ers have had all three of the quarterbacks on their roster play, but Jimmy Garoppolo is the name to watch

All three of the SF 49ers quarterbacks have seen significant game action over these first six weeks, and all three quarterbacks have had drastically different performances each time they have played.

That’s not good.

For a team to be successful, they must have a quarterback that is at least consistent. Yes, even the best have a few bad weeks, but they only have a few, that is the difference.

In 2019, the Niners had quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for every game. Through the first five weeks of the 2019 NFL season, the SF 49ers were 5-0. Garoppolo was available for four of the first six weeks in 2020, yet Garoppolo has been pulled out of two of those games at halftime, the first occurrence in Week 2 when he suffered a high-ankle sprain against the New York Jets, then again after an abysmal first half against the Dolphins in Week 5.

Garoppolo is the ultimate dilemma: Can’t win consistently without him, yet the 49ers can win consistently with him, but…

Are his efforts against the Rams (23-of-33 for 268 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 124. 3 passer rating) indicative of what he’ll do in the coming weeks?

The next 10 games will be decisive for the Garoppolo era in San Francisco. If Garoppolo balls out, he stays and gains some of Kyle Shanahan’s trust. If Jimmy G doesn’t, the rumors about looking for a new quarterback in 2021 will grow.

Let’s hope it’s the former, and the SF 49ers find themselves back in the playoffs. However, Garoppolo will need to do this, along with Shanahan, to make that happen.
