No. 2: SF 49ers’ blocking magically turned elite

If you want evidence of an early Christmas miracle, the fact the offensive line managed to block Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald may be the best chance you’ll find.

I haven’t seen blocking so well-executed since wide receiver Kendrick Bourne starting blocking haters on Twitter.

According to Next Gen Stats, via the 49ers website, the Rams were able to generate pressure on only two of the 33 dropbacks from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. They gave up no sacks, and Donald was just an afterthought.

After conceding 10 sacks in the previous two games, it was a masterpiece performance by the SF 49ers O-line.

Donald is the most dangerous interior defender in the game. Even though there is a rematch against him coming up later in the season, the fact they managed to contain him so totally and keep Garoppolo upright throughout the game now sets a benchmark.

Here’s hoping that the blocking will keep on this trajectory for the rest of the season.
