SF 49ers: Ranking 3 biggest weaknesses four weeks into 2020

SF 49ers Weakest Position No. 1: Offensive Line
This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise: San Francisco’s offensive line has been pretty awful these first four weeks.
In terms of blocking, Football Outsiders has ranked this unit 21st in pass protection and next to last in run support. In contrast, the SF 49ers ranked 15th and eighth in each respective category a year ago.

Also, take a look at the overall season grades from Pro Football Focus from each of the Niners O-line starters:
- LT Trent Williams: 79.6
- LG Laken Tomlinson: 66.5
- C Ben Garland: 72.7
- RG Daniel Brunskill: 56.7
- RT Mike McGlinchey: 69.4
While Brunskill has been a liability, it’s somewhat odd to see most of the grades at the respectable level. The problem, though, has been a massive lack of consistency, and Football Outsiders’ analysis tells a more wholesome story.
Case in point, McGlinchey had his issues in Weeks 2 and 3, while Williams had his worst game with the Niners in Week 4.
The biggest concern, however, could be the inadequate run blocking, which is supposed to be a staple of Kyle Shanahan’s offense. Unlike wide receiver and cornerback, reinforcements aren’t exactly coming back aside from a hopeful return of starting center Weston Richburg (knee).
Even that’s an unknown, though.
Should the SF 49ers not make the postseason, the offensive line could end up being the prime culprit.
