No. 5: SF 49ers Tight End Jordan Reed

Yes, Jordan Reed suffered both ankle and knee injuries during the SF 49ers’ Week 3 win over the New York Giants, and those will keep him out for at least an additional four or five weeks.

But as far as helping make up for the absence of George Kittle, Reed did a great job and was a key reason why the Niners pulled off a one-sided win over the New York Jets the previous week, hauling in seven receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns.

In many ways, Reed looked like the massive standout player he was during his heyday with the Washington Football Team in years prior.

Kyle Shanahan has only seen the dual tandem of Reed and Kittle for about half a game, yet one can still envision the idea of both players taking the field and contributing to San Francisco’s offense down the stretch when both are hopefully at 100 percent.

The 49ers signed Reed as a low-risk, potentially high-reward one-year player during the offseason. While Reed’s own injury history is lengthy, even the limited early results were positive.

The only hope is there’s more to come from Reed’s end once he returns to the field.
