No. 4: SF 49ers Tight End

George Kittle, Ross Dwelley, Jordan Reed and Charlie Woerner

If one had to point out San Francisco’s best overall player, it would be pretty simple: first-team All-Pro tight end George Kittle.

Kittle alone could move the 49ers tight ends up a number of spots, which would be fine. But, as you’ll find out, the Niners have better depth at the spots we’re getting to in a bit to round out the top three on our positional power rankings.

Little more needs to be said about Kittle, as he’ll remain San Francisco’s top offensive weapon. It’s the depth behind Kittle that’s intriguing.

The 49ers brought aboard veteran tight end Jordan Reed during the offseason. After missing all of 2019 and coming in with a lengthy history of injuries, Reed is a bit of an X-factor for Kyle Shanahan this season. If Reed can stay healthy, the Niners could boast one of the most potent one-two punches at the position, and few NFL defenses are adequately equipped to guard against two elite-level pass-catching tight ends.

So it’s a bonus Reed showed off his still-elite skills during training camp.

Backup tight ends Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner have their roles, too, although both will be supplementary in nature.
