49ers depth chart: 3 predictions for offensive line post training camp

No. 2: 49ers sign an O-lineman between now and Week 1
San Francisco has been active onboarding free-agent wide receivers, and for good reason.
The team hasn’t, however, been as active for its offensive line even after losing Ben Garland and second-year guard Ross Reynolds to injuries. Reserve linemen Shon Coleman and Jake Brendel also opted out of the upcoming season.
Just because there’s been a comparatively less amount of moves here doesn’t mean the 49ers will be completely inactive signing potential linemen candidates. They worked out former Atlanta Falcons lineman Jamon Brown on Friday, so that’ll be something to monitor if he’s not signed between then and when this article goes live. So one can see there’s at least a little bit of interest reinforcing this unit.
But there’s probably going to be a lot more interest once teams are forced to cut their offseason rosters down from 80 players to 53 in advance of Week 1.
Unlike previous years when the preseason could provide some much-needed game tape, Kyle Shanahan and his staff will have to go off of last year’s film, either from pro or collegiate ranks, or off some of the media reports circulating around from other teams’ training camps. There are bound to be some halfway-decent O-line cuts, and it wouldn’t be shocking at all if the Niners look to bolster this unit by adding a body or two during what likely winds up being a wild scramble before Week 1 rosters are announced.
