49ers Offensive Tackle Trent Williams

What happens when your longtime star left tackle suddenly retires in the offseason? There’s an easy answer to that question if you’re the 49ers: immediately trade for another star left tackle in Trent Williams.

There’s no denying losing longtime tackle Joe Staley hurt many fans, but the fact the front office was able to so quickly replace him with Williams eased the pain a little bit.

Williams is a probable upgrade over the now-retired Staley at this point in his career, and while he does come with some question marks due to his absence from play last year, he will probably show everyone there is nothing to worry about by the start of the 2020 season. Before the 2019 season, Williams was in the conversation of being the game’s best tackle, so if he can get anywhere close to that form, he will re-cement himself as one of the league’s elite options on the offensive line.

A lot of fans are excited to see their new star left tackle in action this coming season, and with good reason. His level of talent cannot be easily replaced, so there’s no denying that he deserves the fourth spot on our list.

Look for Williams to prove to the franchise that he deserves a hefty extension following the 2020 season.
