49ers Wide Receiver Target No. 3: Jaron Brown
Editor’s Update: This has now happened, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Perhaps the Niners are already thinking along these lines, but former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaron Brown has been on San Francisco’s radar, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, who reported the 30-year-old veteran was being brought in for a workout:
The #49ers are bringing in veteran WR Jaron Brown for a workout, source says. The former #Seahawks and #AZCardinals receiver has spent seven seasons in the NFC West and looking to make it eight.

Brown’s best season came back with the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 when he started eight games and accumulated 31 receptions for 477 yards and four touchdowns including one against the 49ers that year.
As far as a big-impact wideout, the former undrafted free agent out of Clemson is not. But at 6-foot-3 and 204 pounds, it’s understandable why Kyle Shanahan might be intrigued in Brown’s ability to serve as a bigger-bodied target. Since taking over as head coach in 2017, Shanahan has mostly swayed from size at the position, yet players like Jalen Hurd and Jauan Jennings signal a potential shift from that priority.
And Brown could fit the bill on the cheap, at least as a camp-competition piece.
