No. 4: Defensive Tackle Kevin Givens — KEEP
Not many people might know about Kevin Givens. The 6-foot-1, 285-pound defensive tackle signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Givens only played one game last year recording just one tackle versus the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17.
Givens most notably gained some recognition from NFL network analyst Brian Baldinger’s Twitter breakdown after he showcased his preseason game against the Denver Broncos. Baldinger came back to Givens again to recap his Week 17 game in Seattle. Givens only played 10 snaps in that game, but he looked very effective as he showed great ability to get in the backfield.
At the moment, the team has a solid starting rotation along the defensive line, namely with defensive tackles D.J. Jones and 2020 first-round pick Javon Kinlaw. As we watched last year, having a deep D-line is not a bad problem to have.
But the depth is important, too.
Givens should make the team this year as we saw Jones have issues with health last year, and the former could see some action early as Kinlaw learns the defense.
