49ers camp prediction No. 2: Niners sign a pass-rusher before Week 1

San Francisco has been tinkering with its pass-rushing depth all offseason. The team brought aboard former Dallas Cowboys EDGE Kerry Hyder. More recently, the 49ers added former Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders defensive end Dion Jordan, a former first-round draft pick.

It’s going to be tough for either player to make the 53-man squad. But the moves do suggest the Niners aren’t overly comfortable with their pass-rushing depth behind edge rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. Defensive end Ronald Blair is returning from an ACL tear. So is backup defensive tackle Jullian Taylor. Third-year pro Kentavius Street has yet to see his NFL career take off.

As such, some of the defensive line depth, particularly on the edges, could use some reinforcement.

Between now and Week 1, plenty of roster-caliber players are going to be released or waived by other teams, and it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see general manager John Lynch purge some of these other options in an attempt to bolster the depth behind Bosa and Ford in advance of Week 1.
