49ers camp prediction No. 2: Jason Verrett makes the 53-man roster
Last year, San Francisco took a flier on oft-injured one-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jason Verrett. Again banged up in training camp in 2019, Verrett’s sole snaps during the regular season resulted in a pass-interference call and a touchdown allowed to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Verrett subsequently landed back on injured reserve shortly thereafter.
One might guess Verrett’s time with the 49ers has come to a close. But the Niners brought him back on a one-year deal during the offseason anyway, and Verrett even managed to make NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco’s 53-man roster predictions based on the idea the team saw something in him.
Should Verrett stay healthy of course.
San Francisco doesn’t have a ton of experienced depth at the position behind presumed starters Richard Sherman and Emmanuel Moseley, giving Verrett a better-than-average chance to hang around into the regular season.
