No. 2: 49ers Cornerback Tim Harris
Yes, it was somewhat troubling the 49ers didn’t take a cornerback in the 2020 NFL Draft. After all, John Lynch and Co. could be facing the real possibility defensive backs Richard Sherman, Ahkello Witherspoon, K’Waun Williams and Emmanuel Moseley all leave in free agency less than a year from now.
Perhaps one of the reasons why the Niners didn’t make any moves is because of some lofty hopes for the player they selected with their last pick in the 2019 draft, former Virginia cornerback Tim Harris.
Harris, who dealt with plenty of injury issues during his collegiate tenure, redshirted his rookie season after making a handful of appearances during last year’s preseason. But at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Harris is the epitome of what San Francisco prefers with its boundary cornerbacks. And when healthy, Harris is more than adept covering wide receivers in both man and zone schemes, and he isn’t afraid to use his frame to his advantage either.
At this point, any on-field offerings from Harris would be a bonus. In a best-case scenario, he winds up an option to serve as a long-term fixture within the secondary.
