Too early look at possible 49ers free-agent targets in 2021
Offensive Guard Joe Thuney
There is nothing wrong with left guard Laken Tomlinson. He has been solid since the 49ers acquired him just before the 2017 season. I just tend to subscribe to the thought you should always try to upgrade on the offensive line, because the safety of your franchise quarterback should always be a priority.
Coincidentally, Tomlinson’s contract also has an easy out after the 2020 season and would save the Niners $5 million if cut.
This would open the door for New England Patriots guard Joe Thuney, who was a second-team All-Pro last year, and has the kind of athleticism head coach Kyle Shanahan drools over.
