No. 3: 49ers Running Back Raheem Mostert

Projected 2020 Fantasy Football Points: 181.97

Based off what happened down the stretch late in 2019 and into the playoffs, running back Raheem Mostert could easily be viewed as a Round 1 fantasy football option.

One of the tricky elements here, however, is Kyle Shanahan frequently rotates his tailbacks. The 49ers cleared up their logjam a bit during the offseason by trading away their leading rusher from 2018, Matt Breida, to the Miami Dolphins.

But with fellow running back Jerick McKinnon slated to return from a two-year absence due to injury, Mostert’s touches could take a significant hit.

And you’re not going to get those booming 220-yard, four-touchdown games, like he had against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, on a week-to-week basis.

Still, Mostert is an attractive fantasy option for an RB2 or FLEX player against favorable matchups. Mostert’s pass-catching abilities add to his value in points-per-reception (PPR) leagues, too, and Shanahan does shy away from using the runner in this capacity.

Fantasy owners have taken notice after last season, as he now has a respectable ADP of 6.09.

While McKinnon could eventually take snaps away from Mostert towards the season’s end, it’s likely the 49ers let the latter handle the majority of the workload on the ground early in 2020, which plays into fantasy owners’ plans out of the gate.
