No. 3: A 49ers Reunion with an Old Friend, Frank Gore in Week 2

It’s amazing to think the 49ers’ all-time leading rusher, Frank Gore, is still going to churn out yardage at a high level into his 16th season at the NFL level.

Gore signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets during the offseason, reuniting with his former head coach with the Miami Dolphins, Adam Gase. Interestingly enough, Gore has faced off against the team that drafted him just once, back in 2017 with the Indianapolis Colts, since departing the Niners in 2015.

Gore has never shied from his adoration for San Francisco and the franchise, even promising to retire as a 49ers player when his career is over.

Whenever that happens. If it ever happens.

Granted, this Week 2 bout in New Jersey won’t catch the headlines of a lot of national media outlets. The Gore-Niners storyline is a nice one, but it’s unfortunately limited mostly to the specific fans who have adored Gore for decades now.

It would have been a great storyline to see Gore and Joe Staley reunite on the field, the longtime teammates. Now, only safety Jimmie Ward is the lone 49ers player who can say he called Gore a teammate.

Still, it’ll be a moment worth watching as Gore puts up stats against his favorite squad.
