No. 5: Trent Williams Faces Off vs. the Redskins in Week 14

For most fans, and perhaps many of the players, the 49ers’ Week 14 home bout against the Washington Redskins won’t be too exciting.

Just don’t tell that to the newly acquired Pro Bowl offensive tackle, Trent Williams, who sat out all of 2019 when he was with Washington in search of a new contract. When no deal could be reached, the Niners managed to pull off the trade of trades by dealing for Williams in the middle of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Granted, in came as a deal to alleviate the sudden retirement of stalwart tackle Joe Staley. But some could argue Williams is actually an upgrade over the 49ers favorite.

Whatever the case might be, there’s no denying Williams will want to have a strong game against his former employer, which also employed San Francisco’s head coach, Kyle Shanahan, from 2010 through 2013.

In fact, Williams began his pro career under Shanahan’s tutelage, and that’s one of the reasons why Williams was eager for the trade to San Francisco.

Shanahan got some vengeance against Redskins owner Dan Snyder and Co. a year ago amid the rain and mud, yes. Yet Shanahan will want to enact some more vengeance for sure.

This time, he’ll have Williams eager for some retribution, too.
