When you think your team has enough pass-rushers, add another.

This would be the case if the Niners grabbed Kentucky EDGE Jamar Watson here in Round 5, a player who registered a combined 11.5 sacks the past two years with the Wildcats to go with a whopping 16.5 tackles for a loss during that same span.

At 6-foot-3 and 242 pounds, Watson has an ideal body type for a quality edge rusher, although he’s not quite as polished or refined as some of the other pass-rushers projected to go earlier. And there are holes in his pass-rushing moves, which need to be cleaned up a lot if he expects to go any earlier than day three of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The 49ers have edge-rushing needs behind their top-two players, Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. Ronald Blair is a decent option, although he’s coming off a torn ACL in 2019 and might be suited more for interior duties to bolster the depth there.

Watson could fill a solid situational role right away.
