Special Teams

Lock: K Robbie Gould, P Mitch Wishnowsky

Strong Bubble: LS Kyle Nelson

Weak Bubble: None

Long Shot: None

There isn’t a lot of drama here right now. The 49ers fully anticipate their 2019 special teams battery of kicker Robbie Gould, punter Mitch Wishnowsky and long-snapper Kyle Nelson to shoulder the load again this season.

Nelson finds himself on the strong bubble, though, but it’s merely for the idea he’s expensive for a player at his position, due $1.05 million this season.

San Francisco didn’t add any specialists during or after the NFL Draft, so Nelson’s job is probably safe. And given the rotating door of long-snappers during the opening weeks of 2019, it’s likely the 49ers won’t want to try out and change out this position again after some of Gould’s early inconsistencies.

Still, money is money, so Nelson has to at least think about some competition possibly coming his way at some point.
