Linebackers (5)

Fred Warner

Dre Greenlaw

Kwon Alexander

Mark Nzeocha

Azeez Al-Shaair

Of all the position groups on this team, predicting the linebackers might be the easiest of the lot.

The three starters, Fred Warner, Kwon Alexander and Dre Greenlaw, are entrenched barring any major injuries during the offseason or complications with Alexander’s pectoral injury suffered last Halloween.

From there, the depth guys, Mark Nzeocha and Azeez Al-Shaair, were both key contributors last season, mostly on special teams, although each is capable of stepping up on defense if necessary.

Beyond that, there’s not a ton of competition for spots on this unit.

The 49ers brought in veteran Joe Walker during the offseason, but beyond that, the names Joey Alfieri and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles look more like camp bodies or practice squad candidates.

It’s possible none of the ninth defensive line options pan out, and the 49ers opt for a sixth linebacker to contribute on special teams, in which case maybe somebody like Flannigan-Fowles pops in here as the 55th man.

But mostly I expect these five guys to be the linebacking room for the 2020 49ers without much of an issue.
