. . . LOS ANGELES RAMS. D+

Team needs

Drastic upgrades were needed for the offensive line, as the Los Angeles Rams were having trouble protecting quarterback Jared Goff in 2019. A safety wouldn’t have gone amiss either to replace Eric Weddle.

2020 NFL Draft class

  • No. 52: Cam Akers, Running Back, Florida State
  • No. 57: Van Jefferson, Wide Receiver, Florida
  • No. 84: Terrell Lewis, EDGE/Linebacker, Alabama
  • No. 104: Terrell Burgess, Defensive Back, Utah
  • No. 136: Brycen Hopkins, Tight End, Purdue
  • No. 199: Jordan Fuller, Safety, Ohio State
  • No. 234: Clay Johnston, Linebacker, Oregon
  • No. 248: Sam Sloman, Kicker, Miami (OH)
  • No. 250: Tremayne Anchrum, Offensive Tackle, Clemson

Draft review

For some reason, the team didn’t touch the offensive line until the very last pick of their draft class, which is a mistake. The Rams struggled to block in 2019 and that’ll continue again in 2020.

Running back wasn’t really a need, so why Cam Akers was the first pick of the class when they spent a third rounder on Darrell Henderson last year is interesting. He should at least be an upgrade.

There’s some nice value here, Terrell Lewis could be a steal when healthy and Brycen Hopkins can contribute at tight end, but there was a reach in Van Jefferson as well.

There’s talent here, but they failed to fill some huge need on the offensive line which could stop them going back to the playoffs. This has to be graded accordingly.
