Offensive Line

Center: Weston Richburg

Guard: Laken Tomlinson, Daniel Brunskill

Tackle: Trent Williams, Mike McGlinchey

Another big shakeup here, of course.

Just before Joe Staley officially announced his retirement, the 49ers engineered a blockbuster trade for former Washington Redskins Pro Bowl tackle Trent Williams.

Williams, who is five years younger than Staley, didn’t play at all in 2019 while holding out for a new contract. Yet there’s no reason to suspect he’ll be ready to go and at 100 percent for the start of Week 1. Plus, he gets to reunite with his former offensive coordinator in Washington, Kyle Shanahan.

Some could argue Williams is an upgrade over Staley, although not in the minds and hearts of 49ers fans, of course.

The trade, which involved a 2020 fifth- and 2021 third-round pick going to Washington, ensures reserve lineman Daniel Brunskill remains the favorite to start at right guard over another free-agent addition, Tom Compton, who’ll stay in place as depth.

Another Niners draftee, Colton McKivitz, will serve as depth, too.
