Cornerback

Left Corner: Richard Sherman

Right Corner: Emmanuel Moseley

Nickel: K’Waun Williams

Not too many surprises here, except for the fact the 49ers didn’t sign any cornerbacks in the NFL Draft. They did add UDFA DeMarkus Acy out of Missouri, which will help the depth. But the starters appear to be set in place.

There’s a chance for competition between Emmanuel Moseley and Ahkello Witherspoon, the latter essentially being called out by John Lynch.

Witherspoon is one of the beneficiaries of the Niners not taking a cornerback in the draft, particularly early, as it gives him a better chance of seeing those first-team reps alongside Moseley. But one can’t overlook the fact San Francisco was comfortable starting Moseley in the Super Bowl, which points to him being the starter in 2020 alongside the veteran, Richard Sherman.

Sherman, Witherspoon and nickel cornerback K’Waun Williams are all slated to be free agents in 2021, though, so it’s safe to say this year will be crucial in making a deep playoff run before this group sees notable shakeups a year from now.
