Crimson Tide . Xavier McKinney. 2. player. 829. . Safety

This is a simple matter of the 49ers recognizing value when it shows itself in the draft.

Safety Xavier McKinney of Alabama, who many think is the best safety in the draft, should not still be available for day two of the draft. But he is, so the Niners should target him in an attempt to get an incredibly talented player well below his value. It won’t be easy to do so and would likely require another blockbuster trade, but McKinney is a player worthwhile of such a move.

Safety is not the most pressing need on the Niners roster, but it is certainly one they should be looking to improve. In fact, some thought the 49ers should target McKinney with the 13th overall pick, so they should definitely look to see if they can trade up to grab him on day two.

McKinney is a plug-and-play NFL prospect at safety, and he is worthy enough to consider at other positions within the secondary. He has all the athleticism and ability anyone could want in an NFL corner. He started for two years at Alabama, winning Orange Bowl Defensive MVP in 2018.  There’s pretty much nothing to not like about McKinney, and unless there is some hidden secret NFL front offices are hiding from us, it is shocking that he fell into the 2nd round.

The 49ers should target McKinney because he improves a weak spot on the roster, and will be a huge value as a day-two pick.
