No. 3: Don’t trade Dante Pettis

This will be somewhat controversial, as he isn’t the most popular player on the 49ers roster, but I am very firmly on the wide receiver Dante Pettis bandwagon for 2020.

One of the big rumors is Pettis could be used as trade bait by San Francisco to get some picks back.

It seems after one bad season Pettis could be traded back for much less than the second-round selection used on him, and that is a very rash move.

Fans have been very tepid in keeping Pettis on the roster, even after a season where players who struggled previously, such as defensive tackle Arik Armstead and safety Jimmie Ward, all had breakout seasons.

Pettis is still a kid in the NFL landscape. He had a promising rookie season and clearly showed potential. To turf him out now would be selling him for peanuts despite that.

Pettis deserves at least one more chance to show what he can do for San Francisco. Plenty of players under Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have responded, and he can do the same.
