Remember that part about the 49ers needing multiple cornerbacks to potentially replace Richard Sherman, Ahkello Witherspoon and K’Waun Williams in 2021?

It wouldn’t be shocking at all to see the Niners grab two defensive backs in this year’s NFL Draft, one early and one later on day three.

And for the third-day selection, San Francisco goes with a somewhat limited, yet promising defensive back out of Louisiana Tech, L’Jarius Sneed.

Sneed, 6-foot-0 and 192 pounds, has the flexibility to play in both boundary and nickel duties. And with his 4.37 40-yard time at the NFL Scouting Combine, he certainly doesn’t lack for speed.

There are questions, however, namely his ability to recognize and react to routes in man coverage. In this regard, he’s not the best and would ideally thrive much more in a zone-heavy coverage system.

Thankfully enough, that’s precisely what the Niners run.
