No. 3: Offensive Line

The 49ers have decent enough options at safety and cornerback heading into 2020 even if they don’t make any noteworthy moves in Round 1 of the draft.

That might not be the case along the offensive line, however.

While there’s something of a void at right guard in the wake of the Niners cutting the veteran, Mike Person, recent rumors suggest a very real possibility veteran left tackle Joe Staley could retire between now and the start of the regular season.

If he does, there are two options: bump backup lineman Daniel Brunskill into a starting role or grab a top-tier tackle early in the NFL Draft.

Unlike wide receiver and cornerback, the draft is awfully top-heavy with linemen. There are a number of promising names — Louisville’s Mekhi Becton, Alabama’s Jedrick Wills and Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, for example — who could be available early on and within the top 15.

Others could be had with San Francisco’s second first-round pick, yet the pickings get rather slim after that.

Either way, looking at a long-term replacement for Staley should be high on the 49ers’ to-do list.
