No. 2: Broncos and 49ers Continue Their Trade Chemistry

If you had to guess the 49ers would make a trade with one team, the smart money would be on the Denver Broncos.

After all, John Lynch and Broncos general manager John Elway have had a great working relationship for years, and there’s not reason to assume that stops anytime soon. Heck, Denver aided San Francisco’s Super Bowl run by trading wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to the Niners at the NFL trade deadline last year.

In this NFL Draft scenario, however, the Broncos look not to provide young quarterback Drew Lock with more pass-catching options right away, rather to bolster the protection in front of him.

Again, this year’s draft has far more wide receivers deep in the class than it does offensive linemen.

The Buccaneers, selecting right behind the 49ers at No. 14, will also be seeking some O-line help to protect Tom Brady. And while Denver has used a number of early picks on linemen the past few years, this unit remains a work in progress and could stand multiple quality upgrades.

The Broncos can wait until day two of the draft to find a complementary wide receiver to Courtland Sutton. But they can’t wait too long to find a top-quality offensive lineman to protect their biggest offensive investment as of late, Lock.

And for the 49ers, getting a fourth-round pick back in return would help alleviate Lynch’s needs to hit it big early on day one.
