No. 2: Cleveland Browns

Speaking of the AFC North, things could get very interesting in a trade scenario between the 49ers and Cleveland Browns.

A trade here involves players, not just draft picks between the two teams. And it’s something suggested in this tweet right here.

For those too lazy to click the link, it would involve the Niners tagging and then trading defensive end Arik Armstead to the Browns, also sending off San Francisco’s first-round pick in exchange for Cleveland’s own third rounder and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Sounds crazy, right?

Not so much, honestly. Beckham would command the money the 49ers are preparing to spend on Armstead. And while the 2020 NFL Draft is deep at wide receiver, one has to remember all those prospects aren’t proven options. They’re still projects.

Fourth and Nine’s Dylan DeSimone backed up the argument:

"He’ll be cheaper via trade. This would be his third uniform by age 27. He’s got mileage, he’s had injuries, he’s coming off an unspectacular season, and he’s been in plenty of headlines that have caused people to form opinions of him. That’s great for the 49ers because he’s still elite, but his perceived value has shrunk."

DeSimone also pointed out a March 2019 report from NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco the Niners had an interest. And DeSimone also mentioned how Beckham and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo are close, too.

Just like that, San Francisco would get a true No. 1 receiving threat in his prime while also adding a third-round pick to bolster other areas of need.
