Entering the 2019 college football season, many could have easily viewed LSU safety Grant Delpit as the top prospect at his position.

Delpit lost that association to Alabama safety Xavier McKinney over the course of the season, but it doesn’t mean the former’s NFL Draft stock has taken a massive hit. If anything, Delpit could still wind up being a top-15 player selected in Round 1.

At 6-foot-2 and 213 pounds, Delpit has the ideal size to play a number of different positions within the secondary. Considering how interchangeable NFL defenses have become in recent years, the 49ers not being an exception, this kind of versatility is extremely valuable.

Yet Delpit flashed his best traits as a back-end safety in 2018 before a relatively disappointing 2019 campaign, and that’s probably how the Niners would view him if he winds up being the team’s first-round pick.

Like many of the players mentioned so far, Delpit could see a fall from the 20s and into the final three picks of Round 1, and the 49ers could be enticed to grab a promising prospect from one of the best programs in the nation in producing defensive backs.
