Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel

While John Lynch got credit for going with South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel in Round 2 of the draft, one has to look at head coach Kyle Shanahan’s influence.

Shanahan, who coached the 2019 Senior Bowl and directly oversaw Samuel practice and play, immediately took a liking to the tough, physical wideout.

And Lynch wasn’t hesitant to give the head coach credit, speaking such at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine:

"Every part of the test, he just continued to pass with flying colors. … He just became a ‘we have to find a way to make this guy part of (our team).’ It happened in the second round, and he played tremendous. Kyle and his staff did a great job of finding Deebo in a multitude of ways."

Samuel would finish with 802 receiving yards and three touchdowns to the air, also adding an impressive 159 yards and three more touchdowns on the ground, proving just how versatile a weapon he has already become for San Francisco’s offense.
