No. 2: Tyreek Hill vs. 49ers Safeties

So let’s get it out of the way right now: You are not going to cover Tyreek Hill all game by yourself. His speed and acceleration are just ridiculous, and sooner or late, you will get burnt and be left behind as his jersey gets smaller and smaller, as he gets further and further away.

The 49ers, along with the rest of the league, are well aware of this. So it’s pretty obvious that they’ll enlist safety help to mitigate his impact.

Hill is the big play weapon on the Chiefs. His ability to stretch defenses vertically is why the other Chiefs receivers have success in the more intermediate areas of the field.

The 49ers have one advantage other defenses do not, however, and that’s their brilliant passing defense. Aided by the defensive line causing havoc quickly, the tight coverage of the 49ers defensive backs has resulted in very few big plays going past them.

Hill will utilize his speed to get past his man, and this is where the safeties have to be on their game to not allow Hill to get past them, as well. To mitigate Hill is to mitigate a good chunk of their home run attempts.

Stop Hill, and that’s another big facet of the Chiefs’ offense that’s stifled.
