No. 3: Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin

The 49ers had a massive wide receiver problem for a good chunk of the regular season, all coming before the team made the trade for the veteran, Emmanuel Sanders, just before the October deadline.

There are a number of reasons for this, and one of those was the disappointing year veteran wideout Marquise Goodwin had over the course of 2019.

Kyle Shanahan intended on using Goodwin more as a gadget weapon, although that never exactly developed, either. On the whole, Goodwin appeared in just nine games and recorded only 12 receptions for 186 yards and a touchdown — all lows for his three-year tenure in San Francisco and indicative of his injury-laden tenure, previously, with the Buffalo Bills.

The 2017 campaign, in which Goodwin nearly managed 1,000 receiving yards, seems more and more like a distant memory.

Goodwin ended up on injured reserve late in the year after finding himself inactive for two games. And with over $3.6 million potentially generated in cap savings if cut, against $1.25 million in dead money, there’s a good chance the 49ers elect to move on from Goodwin this offseason, too.
