5 consequences from 49ers Week 17 win vs. Seahawks

No. 5: Kyle Shanahan is now the coach of the year
I freely admit I’m biased, but I cannot fathom why head coach Kyle Shanahan would not be the NFL Coach of the Year for this season.
San Francisco 49ers
Taking a team from 4-12 to 13-3 is impressive enough. Leading them to the No. 1 seed in a conference that had the Packers, Saints and Seahawks roaring is even more so. Doing it with the injuries the 49ers sustained is pretty much without equal.
The Niners went down in flames, thanks to injuries last season. This season they rose like a phoenix despite the same problems.
When you consider every loss was in the final seconds, and the bad luck that haunted the team, you could make the argument, with a bit of better luck, a 16-0 season was not impossible.
It’s been that impressive of a season, and one even the most optimistic Niners supporter could not have envisioned.
Personally, I thought San Francisco would go in the 9-7 to 10-6 area and a Wild Card in my most optimistic predictions in the preseason. I never once thought the 49ers would compete and clinch the No. 1 seed.
Shanahan deserves the biggest share of the credit. His play calling has been usually beyond reproach, and he’s clearly a person whom the team believes in and wants to follow.

Now the 49ers have overachieved, all they need is three more victories to overachieve a little bit more, and clinch the overdue sixth Lombardi Trophy everyone is now dreaming about.
