No. 10: Jimmy Garoppolo’s First Touchdown with the 49ers

Coming in at No. 10 in the most memorable plays of the decade is Jimmy Garoppolo’s first touchdown as a 49er. In 2017, the 49ers traded for Garoppolo from the New England Patriots, seemingly solving Kyle Shanahan’s dilemma at the position.

After all of the hype surrounding the trade, Garoppolo sat on the bench for his first games in San Francisco. It was infuriating. Here we were, in a season that was supposed to be the team’s rebirth, and their new leadership had supposedly found a franchise QB.

And there he was, on the bench.

But finally, the starting quarterback at the time, C.J. Beathard, was injured on the last drive of what would eventually be a Seattle Seahawks win.

In came Jimmy G.

He immediately showed why the 49ers leadership had gone all in on him. In his first drive, he had a 100 percent completion percentage and completed a dart for a touchdown as time ran out.

OK, he was 2-of-2. But 100 percent sounds more impressive.

So, play No. 10 in the rankings of the 49ers’ most memorable plays of the decade is Jimmy Garoppolo’s first touchdown as a 49er. The play starts around 23 seconds in the video below:

Garoppolo went on to win his first five starts as a 49er to close out the 2017 season, showing fans the sky was the limit for where he could take the team.
