Ranking the NFL’s 5 most disappointing teams of 2019
By Peter Panacy
Hey, another team the 49ers absolutely embarrassed this season, the Browns.
San Francisco demolished Cleveland 31-3 back in Week 5 on Monday Night Football, which sent a Browns squad many thought had “won the offseason” into a total tailspin. And while first-year head coach Freddie Kitchens’ team managed to bounce back a bit early in the second half, the Browns have to be seen as one of the absolute biggest disappointments in the NFL in 2019.
Speaking of that offseason, how could anyone not be excited about Cleveland turning things around? After all, the team traded for wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. EDGE Olivier Vernon was the perfect complement to the Browns’ other top pass-rusher Myles Garrett, while running back Nick Chubb looked to be a star in the making.
So was quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Instead, the Browns have looked like a team wrapped up in total dysfunction. Beckham sure seems to be finished with Kitchens, and the prior reports of Browns players yelling “come get me” to the Arizona Cardinals during that Cleveland Week 15 loss isn’t exactly and endorsement, either.
Considering just how much talent the Browns accumulated during the offseason, what’s transpired since has to place this squad very high on the list of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season.
