No. 8: Get Robbie Gould Back on Track

At the end of 2018, Robbie Gould’s historic season put the 49ers into a bit of a quandary. After quite the impasse, contractually, Gould and the Niners eventually settled on a four-year, $19 million contract after the team used the franchise tag on him.

One has to wonder if San Francisco is questioning or regretting the move now.

A year after posting a league-leading 97.1 field-goal conversion percentage, Gould is now converting just 63.6 of his field-goal tries and has gone 0-of-4 on attempts from beyond 50 yards.

Case in point, Gould’s tipped attempt in Week 13 against the Ravens ultimately played a vital role in the Niners falling to 10-2 instead of potentially being 11-1 on the year.

Whatever the “what ifs?” may be, there’s no denying Gould needs to get back towards his field goal-making ways. Again, it wasn’t as big a problem when the 49ers were rolling up their opponents with ease.

But that won’t always be the case down the stretch and into the playoffs, as seen against Baltimore.
