Loser: Running Back Tevin Coleman

Raheem Mostert’s gain is fellow running back Tevin Coleman‘s loss.

Coleman started the game in the wake of Breida’s injury, and he was completely held in check by Baltimore’s defense, amassing just 6 yards on five carries. Ever since his four-touchdown performance against the Carolina Panthers back in Week 8, Coleman has mostly been a non-factor for San Francisco’s offense.

He had 23 rush yards the following week against the Arizona Cardinals, 40 yards in the 49ers’ loss to the Seahawks, 14 yards on the ground again against the Cardinals before at least a 1-yard touchdown run against the Green Bay Packers last week.

Still, it’s hard to get around the fact Coleman has been relatively disappointing in recent weeks. Mostert’s ascent is likely to take away the carries Kyle Shanahan gives Coleman down the stretch, too.

Not exactly the best results, lately, from one of San Francisco’s high-profile free-agent pickups during the offseason.
