49ers offensive grades

The 49ers offense played well, but not well enough. Some missed plays and a costly turnover dampened what was a spirited effort by the offense.

Quarterback: C+

Jimmy Garoppolo had himself a decent day, by all accounts. He had his boneheaded throw, a dropped interception by linebacker Tyus Bowser, but he also threw the ball decently. He threw a touchdown to wide receiver Deebo Samuel on a decent throw and a great catch and managed to hit players most of the time.

He also evaded a lot of pressure from the Ravens defense. But on one play, he was stripped in the pocket and lost the football, giving the Ravens a short field which turned into their first touchdown.

This is a game that the weather can skew. The game plan was run-heavy, but Garoppolo made most of his plays when he had to. Just couldn’t do enough.

Running Backs: A+

Running back Raheem Mostert put the Niners on his back and carried them to a near victory. His speed was far too much for the Ravens to handle, especially on this 40-yard touchdown:

Mostert finished with 146 yards on just 19 touches. Not much more to say here. He was extraordinary.

Wide Receivers: B

The 49ers receivers didn’t have any glaring drops and made some huge plays. But with a run-heavy game plan and the run game working so well, there wasn’t much for the receivers to do.

Deebo Samuel had an incredible catch on the first drive of the game for a touchdown:

This is what the 49ers wanted from their receivers; he just went up and got it, out-muscling Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters. Emmanuel Sanders made some plays, and Kendrick Bourne had good hands. Overall, a good performance from the receivers.

Tight End: A+

George Kittle was plastered the entire game by the Ravens, but he dominated the game as a blocker. It was a tremendous job by a multi-faceted player who proved he really is the best at his position.

Offensive Line: B-

In the run game, the 49ers offensive line was on point. They mauled and created gaping holes for Mostert to exploit. In pass protection, the line held up well when dealing with constant blitzes, but stragglers still managed to sneak their way through and cause a plethora of problems for Garoppolo.

All things considered, it was a good performance by this offensive line, but it wasn’t perfect.
