No. 9: 49ers Being a Four-Win Team in 2018

Remember all those losses last year? Remember how much it stunk to know the season was essentially awash when quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered his ACL injury back in Week 3?

For all those Niners fans who endured what turned into a four-win campaign, the reward was a pretty massive one: the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

San Francisco, of course, grabbed EDGE Nick Bosa with that selection. With eight sacks already at Thanksgiving, Bosa is surging his way towards the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Heck, perhaps the Defensive Player of the Year.

This happened all because the 49ers weren’t able to win a lot of games a season ago. But unlike a number of other bottom-dwelling teams, both in 2018 and this season, the Niners weren’t wholly terrible. There was talent on both sides of the ball, just some of the key components were missing.

Judging by the 10-1 start to this season, it appears Bosa was one of those components and the rest of the missing pieces were filled.

So, yes. Let’s be thankful the 49ers weren’t particularly great last season. Because this was the direct path to landing Bosa.

Which leads to another thing San Francisco fans must be thankful about, the Arizona Cardinals.
