Special teams and coaching grades

Kicking: C

Gould scored all the points for the 49ers, but he made bettors and fans angry with his missed field goal to start the game, letting the Redskins win the spread and missing his seventh field goal in the process. Gould has struggled mightily, an issue that has not been resolved.

With long snapper Kyle Nelson soon to return, it’s up to Gould to fix his issues.

Punting: B+

Punter Mitch Wishnowsky played better, pinning the Redskins deep when he got the opportunity. It was a glimpse of the talent the 49ers saw when they drafted him in the fourth round of this year’s NFL Draft. That’s about it.

Coaching: C+

The 49ers defense was out of sync to start the game yet again, an issue coordinator Robert Saleh must address. The offense did not play well at all, a byproduct of everything around them. But a win is a win, and credit coach Kyle Shanahan for pulling it out when he needed to.
