No. 3: DeForest Buckner

In the past two weeks, we’ve seen two different defensive linemen go absolutely nuts and tee off on an offensive line.

Last week is was EDGE Dee Ford, who came up with 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an astronomical 94.9 grade from Pro Football Focus:

The week before was the official statement game by young star EDGE Nick Bosa. Who had two sacks (which should have been three, had another sack been correctly called) and made Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield look like an undrafted free agent making his first preseason start.

This week it’s time for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to have his 2019 statement game.

Buckner has been very good, but has oddly enough taken a backseat to the 49ers’ new EDGE additions this year. It’s odd because he has three sacks, six QB hits and three tackles for loss, yet there hasn’t been a game where he’s been the best player on the field.

Buckner has a huge advantage here. Redskins center Chase Roullier is only decent with a 67.0 score by PFF, while left guard Ereck Flowers is a former bust for the New York Giants who got moved inside to guard and has been ineffectual there for Washington.

With their wrecking-ball acts the last fortnight, Bosa and Ford will soak up all the attention of the Redskins offensive line. Buckner has a chance to take advantage and make the game all about him on defense.
