Week 5 Injury Report for San Francisco

The 49ers made a few roster moves leading up to Monday night’s game, placing wide receiver Jalen Hurd (back) and cornerback Jason Verrett (knee) on injured reserve.

It’s feasible both return later in the season. For now, though, the Niners hope to get by with fill-in wideout Jordan Matthews, along with cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, who’ll likely get his first start in what will be a matchup to watch.

More on that in a second.

San Francisco’s Week 5 injury report is short, albeit significant:

Left tackle Joe Staley (leg) is expected to be out roughly six more weeks, while cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon likely won’t return until the end of the month.

Moseley is all but assured the nod in Witherspoon’s stead, while rookie tackle Justin Skule will make his second-ever start at the NFL level.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco told KNBR 680’s Murph and Mac Show EDGE Dee Ford (knee) will likely be used as a situational edge rusher in Monday’s contest, as the team hopes his injury heals properly.

Running back Tevin Coleman, meanwhile, could possibly return in time for Week 5.

Although the Niners are well stocked at the position, and a return could create something of a logjam at running back, cutting down on an active player at another position, should Coleman be ready to go.

As far as those matchups are concerned, let’s jump into them.
