No. 1: Wide Receiver A.J. Green

The 49ers could probably spring enough money for one big NFL free agency signing in 2020, and going after Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green would be a wise move.

Green’s price tag will be lowered, thanks to the ankle injury he suffered during training camp. And while the Niners have a deep crop of receivers on the roster, there has yet to be a true No. 1 threat at this position for some time now.

Adding Green would change that.

At 31 years old, Green still has quite a few years left performing at a high level. All one needs to do is look at the seven Pro Bowl nods he’s received in each of his years within the pro ranks. Don’t let health get in the way of thinking Green would provide a huge boost.

And he’d be the kind of player Kyle Shanahan would prop up in the offense. Green would be the difference maker San Francisco has sought at the position ever since the veteran, Anquan Boldin, left some years ago.

Meanwhile, Green would probably be happy to get out from a perennially losing Bengals squad and into an up-and-coming Niners roster, which is building what could be a prolific offense over the next few years.
