The San Francisco 49ers have an early bye week in 2019 and won’t play another game until they welcome the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 7. The bye week allows for a different type of analysis of the team, including looking far into the future for the remainder of the 2019 NFL season.

Every team in the NFL has now played three games. And unlike Week 1 overreactions, it’s starting to become clear some teams are exactly who they were expected to be, while others are better, and still others are worse.

The San Francisco 49ers, at least for most pundits and prognosticators, are firmly in that middle category, having started the year off 3-0.

Coming into the season, the expectations for the Niners were lower than leading into the 2018 season, and that has likely helped this team a great deal.

Also factoring in has been an improvement from the defense, which has not only more than doubled its interception total from 2018, but looks more comfortable getting stops when it needs to. Aside from that, it’s looked capable of overcoming adversity, such as the five-turnover hole the offense put them in last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But if the 49ers have surprised, so have other teams, including teams on the Niners schedule for the remainder of the season.

With that said, it seems like an ideal time to revisit our initial win/loss projection that was done way back in April.

Let’s see if the 49ers could look to improve upon that offseason forecast.
