FS Tarvarius Moore

I’ve been an arduant Tarvarius Moore fan the second he was drafted. Entering this season, I detailed how Moore was a player to watch this year.

Moore has had his moments, most specifically a crucial fourth-down stop against the Tampa Buccaneers Week 1. But this game against the Steelers was a tough one for the second-year player and first-year safety.

Remember the Smith-Schuster touchdown mentioned earlier? Well, Witherspoon on coverage played that route perfectly.

Moore, on the other hand, did not:

After Smith-Schuster caught the ball, watch No. 33, Moore.  He over-pursues to begin the play, which puts him at a terrible angle. He was the last line of defense on that play, and he failed.

Then on the Johnson touchdown, Moore, playing single-high safety, reacted far too late to the play. By the time he runs to help Verrett, the play is over.

The 49ers pulled out the win, so these breakdowns can be just a good learning experience. But  Moore has Jimmie Ward breathing down his neck, and games like this simply won’t cut it.

By the end of the game, most players/position groups managed to redeem themselves. But entering the bye week, the 49ers cannot rest easy.
