49ers Week 3 Injury Report

The Niners got a little creative with their roster on Friday, moving wide receiver Trent Taylor (foot) to short-term injured reserve, then re-signing offensive tackle Sam Young to a one-year deal.

Young will likely back up the rookie, Justin Skule, who’s taking the place of left tackle Joe Staley (leg).

Staley didn’t land on short-term IR, meaning San Francisco is anticipating he’ll return from his broken leg within eight weeks. That’s good, but getting by in the meantime won’t be easy.

Here’s the rest of the 49ers’ Week 3 injury report:

Safety Jaquiski Tartt‘s questionable designation could be a cause for concern, as he’s going to be responsible for covering Steelers tight end Vance McDonald, who was the recipient of Mason Rudolph’s two touchdowns in Week 2.

On a positive note, though, EDGE Dee Ford managed to practice in limited fashion on Friday. If he sat out, his chances of playing on Sunday would have been unlikely. Ford exited the Week 2 matchup after his leg flared up, so his presence back on the practice field is a bonus.

Thankfully, San Francisco’s defensive line has gotten by fairly well with Ford limited over the first two weeks of 2019.
