NFL power rankings: Post-preseason 32-team breakdown before Week 1
By Peter Panacy
The New York Jets take a notable hit in our NFL power rankings, unfortunately due to a season-ending ACL injury to starting inside linebacker Avery Williamson. It’s absolutely brutal for the Jets’ chances in 2019.
This will put even more pressure on New York’s big-ticket addition this offseason, C.J. Mosley, who’ll have to handle a larger role on a still-rebuilding defense.
And the Jets better hope cornerback Trumaine Johnson starts living up to his lofty contract, too. Let’s not get into the kicking situation either.
Some of the defensive question marks in New York force the idea head coach Adam Gase will have to put a lot of pressure on running back Le’Veon Bell and second-year quarterback Sam Darnold. If these two help drive the offense this season, the Jets might avoid the pitfalls of having a questionable defense.
If not, there could be plenty of eyes rolling in New York once again.
And not just those of Gase.
