5 biggest takeaways from 49ers roster cuts in 2019

No. 1: 3 Running Backs and 3 Quarterbacks… for Now
It was something of a shock to see the Niners waive running back Jeff Wilson, who rushed for 100 yards on 20 carries in his preseason finale against the Chargers.
This would indicate San Francisco will keep three running backs on its 53-man roster: Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert. Jerick McKinnon is heading to season-ending injured reserve, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.
Wilson could still return to the practice squad, of course. Rookie Austin Walter is another candidate, too.
There were also no moves at quarterback, meaning the 49ers will keep three heading towards Week 1: Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens. While there has been some buzz about a possible trade with a QB-needy team, possibly the Denver Broncos or Indianapolis Colts, no deal has been made just yet.
It’s possible San Francisco looks to make a move over the next few days after the waiver wire cools down and other teams try to grab whichever available players they can.
Until then, however, it appears is if Kyle Shanahan’s comments about the team preparing to carry three quarterbacks into 2019 wasn’t misleading.
