No. 3: 49ers Defensive Line Is Too Deep

It’s certainly a good problem for the Niners to have. San Francisco’s defensive line depth is great enough, affording Kyle Shanahan to part ways with some pretty notable defensive linemen during cut time.

Two preseason stars, defensive ends Jeremiah Valoaga and Damontre Moore, are now gone after cuts despite both players’ strong exhibition performances. Moore, in particular, was one of the 49ers’ best preseason performers.

But with the Niners D-line not at 100 percent strength during the preseason — Dee Ford (knee) and Nick Bosa (ankle) were both out — placing Valoaga and Moore on the 53-man roster was going to come down to a numbers game.

And both lost out.

It is an endorsement for fourth-year pro Ronald Blair, however, who was tied for the team lead in sacks last season with 5.5.
